Welcome to Kestrels Class! 🦅

A very warm welcome to the Kestrels class page! Below is an overview of the topics and subjects we will be exploring together this term.

English: We will be diving into some wonderful texts, including 'Inspiring Inventors who are changing our future', 'A Thief in the village', 'Straw into gold' and 'I am a cat.' Through these, the children will learn to write their own biographies, engaging stories and expressive poetry.
Maths: Our focus this term turns to shape, position and direction, mastering decimal numbers and understanding units of measurement.
Reading: Our whole-class reading lessons will take us on journeys through time and imagination with 'Five Children and It' by E. Nesbit and 'Secrets of a Sun King' by Emma Carroll.
Science: We will explore the physical world and beyond, studying forces, the cause of night and day and the fascinating stages of animal (including human) development.
History & Geography: In History, we will be studying the dramatic end of the Viking era alongside some fascinating elements of our local history. In Geography, we will learn about migration, the wonders of the Amazon and the people who call it home.
Design & Technology: We will be learning how to repurpose materials and master the art of joining them together using sewing.
Religious Education: This term, we will be exploring the teachings, traditions and practices of Buddhism.
French: The children will continue to develop their language skills every Wednesday morning with Mrs Kandes, focusing on French phonics, vocabulary and grammar.

PE Days: Our PE lessons will take place on Monday afternoons and Friday afternoons. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school on these days.
