Who are we?
Formally known as the PTA, we raise funds to enhance the experience of all the children at Stowford School from Nursery to Year 6. We are keen to welcome new members to join the committee. Annual general meetings are held at the school. Events and meeting dates are published on the school newsletter.
Stowford Friends Committee is a registered charity (Charity Number: 1144594).
Message from Stowford Friends
We have launched a new volunteers list. Stowford Friends are keen to invite any parents, carers, grandparents, staff and local residents to support the group.
We are encouraging people to become involved in fundraising and events in any way they can – without the need to formally become a committee member.
Funds have been spent on equipment, facilities and events at Stowford School, such as:
- play equipment (the children have a wish list)
- visit by theatre group
- enhancements to the playgrounds
- contribution towards the accessibility lift
This year we hope to raise even more money, but to do that we need your help!
If you think you may be able to help out at some point during the school year, please contact email@example.com.

Stowford Friends – news & upcoming events
The AGM welcomed new members and lots of ideas. A highlight was the Treasurer’s report: in the last school year, we raised £9,923, a huge increase on the previous year. Thank you all for supporting our events!
Here’s how we’re spending the money raised last year:
Outside, there’s the new sandpit surround (& sand). Inside, there’s extra shelving in the library and many more books, as well as new portable cookers for use in the classrooms. We also helped fund a theatre company’s visit and the Year6 production.
There’s more to come, with work in progress/funding agreed in principle for:
Another significant donation for books – focused on Foundation & KS1.
Improvements are taking shape in the Foundation and Nursery playgrounds and there’s an exciting new project to enhance the outdoor space for the whole school – watch this space!
On to this year: Year 6 got the cake sales off to a delicious start, raising a fantastic £135 (they will decide how to spend this). Some families asked for fewer cake sales, so we’ll now only hold one per half term. As always, a single year group bakes (we’ll send a reminder letter) but everyone gets to buy the cakes. It will be the turn for Year 5 next (Friday 2nd November).
Christmas already?! Well for “Cauliflower Cards” it soon will be. Each child will create their own work of art in class which, if you like, can be printed as Christmas cards/gift labels. All purchases raise money for the school. Look out for your child’s picture & the order form in book bags. If you would like to order please make cheques payable to Stowford Friends. (Please do not make cheques payable to Stowford School as this will necessitate the cheque being returned for correction).
Dates for your diary:
Friday 12th October: Halloween Sale (thanks to ‘Tiger’ for donating items) – a chance to get bargain props and accessories for the school disco or a party at home.
Wednesday 17th October: Halloween Disco – when planning costumes, please note the school policy is no hair dye (as there is school the next day). Also, please leave “weapons” at home. Many children get very excited – we’d prefer them to run around without tridents, scythes and axes so the only bloodstains will be fake!
Friday 2nd November: Cake sale – cakes supplied by Year 5.
Saturday 1st December 1-4pm: Christmas Fair. Please note the date change, previously advertised as 24th November.
Saturday 11th May 2019: Stowford School Charity Ball at Boringdon Golf Club, celebrating 40 years of Stowford School. Save the date! Follow us on Facebook for news of this event.
Stop press: Thank you all for the support for the Bag2School collection. We didn’t quite make the ton but still managed a total weight of 760kg and raised a fantastic £304 for the school. Thank you everyone!
