Rounders Champions

On Thursday 7th June five teams from the South Hams took part in a rounders tournament. The event was held at Ivybridge Community College. Stowford School’s year 5 team joined teams from Newton Ferrers, who won the Ivybridge Community Learning round and the top three teams from the Kingbridge Learning Community Event, Averton Gifford, Dartmouth and Loddiswell.

Each team played four matches and Stowford won 3 and narrowly lost to Newton Ferrers. By the end of the competition 3 teams had managed to score the same number of points. The total number of rounders scored determined the winner of the event – Stowford with a total of 27.5. Stowford’s team have developed their skills well as the tournament has progressed really coming together to play as a team, listening to one another and anticipating each other’s actions.

Year 5 teacher, Matt Jackson said “The team were amazing, they played superbly and had a positive attitude towards the whole event. “

The team will travel to Okehampton on Tuesday 12th June to compete for a place in the County Finals.  If Stowford win this event, against West Devon schools, they would then travel to Brickfields to complete in the County Summer Games.
