Reading Scheme

In the EYFS and KS1 daily phonics is taught using the complete systematic synthetic phonics programme 'Little Wandle'. This draws on the latest research into how children learn best, ensuring that the learning of phonics stays in children's long-term memory. Children are able to apply their learning to become highly competent readers. Children have carefully matched decodable books and spend time decoding, working on their fluency and being able to comprehend what they are reading.

When children are ‘free readers’ they move onto a scheme called ‘Accelerated Reader’ which helps their free choice to be managed, so children choose a book just at the edge of their comfort zone in order to help them develop as readers.
