Linnets

Welcome to Linnets Class!

Our teacher is Mrs Tickner, and we are supported brilliantly by Mrs Lannin every day. Miss Kee will teach on  a Wednesday morning for PE.

Any of the teachers would be delighted to speak to you if you have any concerns, big or small.

This term…

Welcome to the first half of the summer term.

In English, we will be learning how to write poems, informal letters and setting descriptions. Throughout all of our English learning, we will be using our phonics to spell, focussing on letter formation, finger spaces and capital letters. We have two key texts for this term; ‘There’s a Rang Tan in my Bedroom’ and ‘Tango makes Three’, as well as many other daily books that we share.

In maths, we will be learning about mass, capacity and volume and comparing and measuring these. We will then move onto multiplication and division where we will practise counting in 2s, 10s and 5s, making equal groups, arrays and doubles. Finally, we will learn about finding and recognising a quarter and half when we learn about fractions.

In science, we will be revisiting our learning from earlier terms to recall our knowledge of animals and plants. We will be identifying and naming a variety of common animals and re-capping our learning of carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.

In history, we will also be revisiting prior learning. We will be learning about changes within living memory and focussing on chronological changes that the children have experienced through their lives.

In geography, we will use simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the geography of our school and its grounds and the key human and physical features.

In PSHE, our unit of learning is ‘Relationships'. We will be looking at families, friends, greetings, people who help us, being our own best friend and celebrating our special relationships.

During PE lessons, we will continue to follow the ‘Real PE’ programme with a unit on Physicality – focussing on control and consistency of our movements and Miss Kee will also be teaching her weekly lessons.

In DT, we will be learning how to use different textiles, working towards creating a hand warmer that we will sew.

In art this half-term, we will learn how to smooth a form out of clay. The children will explore a range of materials to understand the importance of weight and balance in construction and they will use recycled materials to create their own sculpture inspired by The Enchanted Owl by Kenojuak Ashevak.
