Summer Term 2024

This term we will continue to look at fiction and non- fiction writing. In our writing sessions, we will continue to learn about how to join sentences in different ways, sentence types including the correct use of punctuation and how to make writing interesting for the reader through use of vocabulary, adjectives and adverbs. We will be writing; non-chronological reports about nocturnal animals, a recount of our school trip to Plymouth Hoe and Smeaton’s Tower, poetry and write a story inspired by real authors.

In Maths, we will continue our learning about calculation; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and how we can use strategies and number facts to solve problems. We will also learn about time, data handling and statistics, position and direction.

During our Computing lessons, we will be learning to create a presentation with text and images.

In Music, we will be further developing our singing skills by learning a song about friendship, which we will then accompany with instruments.

In Art, we will be creating 3D sculptures inspired by indigenous Australian artworks.

In DT, we will be learning about structures and investigate the strength of paper.

During Geography lessons, we will learn about fieldwork and mapping skills.

In History lessons, we will study the history of lighthouses and look at the fascinating achievements of British heroine, Grace Darling.

In Science, we will revisit our learning from Year 2 in order to deepen understanding. For example, the children will use their knowledge of animals and their habitats and properties of materials to design animal homes.

During Jigsaw (PSHE), we will focus on thinking about relationships for the first half of the term and how we can understand and respect the changes we see in others and ourselves in the second half of the term.

In Religious Education lessons, we will learn about how attending a mosque can give Muslims a sense of belonging and think about if and how pilgrimage can make a person a better Muslim.

PE will take place on a Monday and Tuesday. Children may come into school in their PE kit on PE days. In addition to this, the children will have the opportunity to take part in Wild Tribe termly.
